Bulletproof Way to Increase Conversions On Your Shopify Store

Are you struggling to get some sales from your Shopify store or just working on growing your overall order volume? This simple-to-implement conversion hack will almost definitely improve your conversion rate by 5-300%. Those are huge numbers from the minimal work you’ll be doing to get there.

Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is

Offering your customer’s a no-frills money-back guarantee moves the risk from them onto you, making it much easier for the customer to bite the bullet and order from your store. Sales increase’s can be huge, as documented by many studies and anecdotal reports from business owners. However, you will likely see a bump in returns, but this will be slight, and negligible compared to the conversion boost you get by offering it. So long as your customers are getting the products they ordered, they will be happy.

Neil Patel of Crazy Egg and Hello Bar reports a sales increase of 21% after implementing a money back guarantee and a 12% refund rate, leaving him at total revenue boost of 6.4%. That’s a huge boost and that return rate can be mitigated by utilization our amazing Shopify Customer Service Hack (it is actually recommended as they go hand in hand).

Trust Badges

By far, the easiest way to make your money back guarantee visible is to display it loud and proud on your product pages with a Trust Badge, like the one below.

Trust badges are easy to find online, but it is important to find one that matches the aesthetic of your online store so not to break the user’s interaction with the site.

Here are a few examples:

You can snoop around the web for these by typing “Trust Badge” into Google Images, clicking [Tools], then [Color] and select “Transparent”. This will show only images that have transparent backgrounds that won’t mess with your web design.

If you can’t find one you like, you can always have one made specifically for you site for $5-10 on sites like Creative Market or Fiverr

Trust App

The free Trust App from the Shopify App Store is a must have for every Shopify user as it adds a simple toolbar on your site to help earn the confidence of your visitors.

Once you install Trust, enable every trust badge you feel comfortable with.

I recommend having the following functions enabled:

  • PCI Compliance
  • SSL Certificate
  • Satisfaction Guarantee
  • Secure Infrastructure

Store contact is not necessary but recommended.

Trust – Visibility Settings

By default the Trust app displays with a white background that can be rather obtrusive. Fortunately, the app allows for transparencies which gives us the ability to make the Trust bar show just as icons on the screen.

To set this up, open up your Trust settings, click the [Seals Look & Feel] tab, scroll down to [Display Customizations]  and paste the following value into the [Background Color] field:

rgba(255,255,255,0)

This will make the Trust icons much less obtrusive to the visitors of your Shopify store.

And here’s what you’ll end up with at the bottom of your page! Make sure to set the alignment right. I have mine on the bottom left as I have my free Tawk.to live chat button on the right

Free-quently asked questions

To wrap everything up, you’re going to want to setup a nice page that quickly and easily outlines all of your policies to save you and your customer’s time with back and forth emails.

By far the easiest and cheapest way to accomplish this is with a FAQ page built with HelpCenter. HelpCenter is a free app that will automatically setup a frequently asked questions page for you to easily add entries to. You can play with the color settings to get it match with your theme and then add it to the relevant menus on your site. I recommend the main menu and the footer for easy access.

The HelpCenter main menu

To add HelpCenter to a menu, select [Online Store] from the Shopify Home Screen.

Then select [Navigation]

Then select the menu you want to add your FAQ page to (Main Menu, Footer, etc.)

Select [Add Menu Item]

Type in “FAQ” (Or whatever you would like your FAQ page to be titled), select [Web Address] from the Link drop down, and then type in /apps/help-center

Boom! There you have it! Your FAQ will be on the menu you entered it into.

What type of GUARANTEE?

You should offer your customer the best guarantee you have confidence in. Jeremy Reeves from Cray Egg once offered a 35x your money back guarantee and saw a 25% improvement in sales. Jeremy was only able to offer this because he was so confident in his product, and the people he was marketing to, that he knew his returns would be small compared to the total profit earned by including the pitch.

However, most of us will want to go for something less risky. The standard money back guarantee is a 30-day one, which, while nice, is saturated and doesn’t stand out. If you really want to stand out, consider multiplying that number…how about 90? How about a whole year? You might be worried about scores of customers flooding your customer service email asking for refunds on the 364th day, but take a moment to remember that most customers will be happy with their purchase if you are indeed selling what you are advertising, and won’t want to go through the hassle of trying to get a return (even if you make it very easy for the customers who do).

We can further reduce the rate of returns by employing the amazing Shopify Customer Service Hack. This way you will maximize your profits while still offering your customers a fantastic shopping experience they can feel confident in.

Converted?

So there you have it! A sure fire way to increase conversions and boost the trust of your customers. This is especially valuable if your business relies on impulse buys as the money-back guarantee is very effective at easing customer apprehensions and pushing them through that conversion funnel.

How To Deal With Lost or Damaged Items Without Losing Money

Today we have an awesome Shopify Hack to seriously up your customer service game while also netting you less profit loss per return/refund! This is an amazing trick that came to me out of the blue one day out the blue that has saved me TONS of money since it was implemented. I estimate my store has saved about 30-40% on returns since we’ve put it in place because it’s just that effective. It is super easy to implement with no extra tools or setup required.

Shopify Customer Service Hack

Instead of offering a refund or a replacement to a customer when something goes wrong (item damaged, lost in the mail, sizing way off, etc.) offer them either a refund OR a replacement + a free item of equal or lesser value of their choosing.

This trick is great because while the customer is given a choice, 90% of the time they will select the replacement + free item because it has twice the (perceived) value than the refund is worth. This way you don’t have to shell out money for a shipping label while leaving your customer frustrated, nor do you have to lose all of your profit and your product. The replacement + free item method minimizes profit loss compared to just handing out a refund, and it leaves the customer thinking very positively about your company.

If you sell T-Shirts on Shopify for $25, and you buy the from AliExpress for $8, you stand to lose -$34 after fees if you send the refund by itself, or -$26 if you get a refund from your supplier. If you send the customer a replacement + a free item, you will have a net profit of $1, or $9 if you get a refund from your supplier, and your customer is left feeling good about your company.

The vast majority of the customers’ I’ve had to implement this with have been so thankful for the free item, and some of them have even told me that they will tell their friends about the store because of this interaction.

Boom! That’s it. All you have to do is change up your customer service emails and you’ll be on your way to retaining more of your money and increasing your chances of repeat customers. Lucky for you, we’ve giving away the FREE email template we use for you use or modify so you can implement this money saving technique today today.

How I Got Started in Dropshipping

Humble Beginnings

My entrance into dropshipping started as a test of a hypothesis I had developed after years spent being raised by a cable modem: The internet ALWAYS has a better solution, even if you have to dig a little. I had learned that you can almost always get a better price for products online than in the store, that you can determine the quality of said products better by looking at reviews that are only available online, you can often get the most cutting edge information about a particular subject from message boards than from a textbook.

With that experience well ingrained in my adolescence, I neared the end of my college career with the prospect of either working my ass off for at least 5 more years in academia to eventually get make a living as a professor, or to work at a low paying job somewhere that ate all of my free time. Surely, the internet could offer a better solution. So I began to dig, and dig, and dig. Hours of digging. The greatest the digs! I skimmed through the “work from home” BS that ends up being more work than a normal job (as you are expected to work for every minute that you are on the clock) and the spammy get rich quick schemes, to find some promising nuggets on the around the net on message boards.

Warrior Forum is one of the original internet marketing message board. It can be a great resource, but also a huge time suck. Be careful.

I found some forum posts from users who had made a good living dropshipping products back and forth from Amazon and eBay for a profit. While many commenters expressed skepticism, I was open minded. I knew that if most people don’t realize they can get the same blender selling at Bed Bath and Beyond for $249 on Amazon for $199, then there are likely many people who till trust eBay to give them better prices over Amazon (and vice versa).

While Amazon has eaten up the ecom market place, there is still are large and loyal eBay user base who see it as the best place to get deals.

So, I used the information pieced together from the BlackHatWorld posts plus a course I bought on Amazon to eBay Dropshipping and started listing!

I started seeing daily profits coming in steadily as I listed 5 news items a day, from $10 a day, to $20, to $30. I knew my hypothesis would stand true if I could earn $50 a day (the equivalent of $9/hour at 40 hours a week).

So I kept at it and as the Summer was drawing to a close, I was consistently hitting that $50 threshold. My hypothesis was confirmed.

I moved out on my own, and after getting lucky with an untapped product, was making $150 a day with a few hours of work just from dropshipping products from Amazon to eBay.

Things Get Ugly

Unfortunately, things can get ugly when working with protective companies like PayPal…

One day I check my email to find that PayPal suspended my account, effectively ending my only source of income.

It turns out one of my customers was a scammer who used stolen accounts to buy from me and PayPal thought I was somehow in on it (even though I reported the issue to the FBI and the Chicago PD)

After about 3 months of back and forth with PayPal, I was running out of savings and concluded that there was no way of getting my account and selling privileges back, so I went back to the internet that had helped me out so much in the past to look for a new way of bringing in income…

Welcome to Shopify!

I decided dropshipping from AliExpress via a Shopify store would be the easiest way to translate my skillset from eBay.

I dropped some money on a course, ready to crush it and start making some money again.

I started a niche store, ran Facebook ads, and saw no return.

“Okay, just a bad niche, I’ll start another one and will certainly crush it” I thought to myself.

So I researched another niche, build a site, sourced products, ran FB ads, and nothing.

I kept at this until I had 7 domains in my   account and nothing to show for it. I had even gotten a job doing newspaper deliveries to fund my ad campaigns as my savings were bone dry.

All of this came from following the instructions of my apparently very lucrative teacher to a T. That’s when I decided to give it one more shot, but this time we were going to do things differently.

I researched a niche that I KNEW other AliExpress dropshippers were doing well in. I sourced the same or similar products as them, created a great and responsive website, then, after reading about the power of Social Media Influencers, I created an Affiliate program in which I paid Instagrammers in my niche a commission to promote for me. This allowed me to get high engagement advertisements out without having to spend anything unless they worked, and let me tell you, they really @&$#ing worked!

I used the Affiliatly free trial to setup the affiliate program, and used the BlueStacks Android Emulator to send out messages quickly to Instagram users.

What resulted was nothing short of amazing…

I was quickly hitting $1,000-$3,000 in sales DAILY with a 30% profit margin.

I am now making a very comfortable living off of my main store, a few sub stores, and have helped many friends and clients successfully start their own eBay and Shopify stores by showing them the do’s and don’ts I had to learn way through trial and error.
